Born and raised in San Mateo, CA.  David moved to Southern California for College and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from CSU, Long Beach and his Master's Degree in Management from the University of Southern California.  After graduation, he went to work for a Big 4 accounting firm in Los Angeles for 6 years, where he was the Human Resources and Recruiting Manager.  David and his family moved to Chico, CA in 1990 and for 25 years he has been the Director of Human Resources and Recruiting for Matson and Isom/KCoe-Isom.

Over the past 32 years, David has been responsible for Human Resources, Recruiting, and more. He has also been involved in personal and business coaching/talent management.

He has also done consulting for Firm clients in the Human Resources, Recruiting, and Employee Relations.  David has extensive knowledge and practical experience in various Federal and California labor law related areas, including: recruiting and hiring, wage and hour, leave laws, discrimination and harassment, and more.

David, now “retired”, but still very busy teaching and consulting…a great passion for him.

He also does training and presentations on HR related topics including: communication, leadership development, motivation, employee relations, interviewing, professional and personal development, emotional intelligence, keeping a positive attitude, happiness, and more.

David also has the following certifications/experience:

Certified Dale Carnegie Instructor (CDCI)

Specializing in employee relations, business and personal communication, building positive rapport and relationships, presentation skills, and more. David enrolled in the Dale Carnegie course in 2002 and was so impressed with the training that he returned several times as a graduate assistant and then trained further and became a Certified Dale Carnegie Instructor.  He has seen firsthand in his human resources, business dealings, consulting, and personally, the relevance, power, and life changing value of the Dale Carnegie courses and principles and training.

Instructor/Adjunct Professor, California State University, Chico

Classes he teaches include: Business Communications, and Managing Personal Success, and Human Resources Management.

Professional Advisor Spring 2016 - Management/Human Resources Club

Certified Senior Professional in Human Resources and SHRM Senior Certified Professional -
both through the Society of Human Resource Management.

Certified Human Capital Coach (CHCC)

Involved in Business and Life Coaching assisting others in building their confidence and maximizing their true potential.

Certified DISC Practitioner (DISCC)

A personality and communication assessment used in coaching and counseling employees and individuals to further build self-awareness, self-confidence, communication and relationship skills.

Certified Body Language Professional (CBLP)

With 93% of communication being non-verbal, body language, voice tones and fluctuations, etc. this is a valuable knowledge to improve communicate and understand and to build stronger relationships.

The Science of Happiness Certificate

Happiness and joy seem to be decreasing in our busy, stressful world, however there are ways to increase our ‘life satisfaction’.  Even though happiness and joy can mean different things to different people, there are core behaviors and thoughts that can be applied everyday to live life to the fullest.

David is involved in several professional and community organizations including: Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), MENSA, and Grace Community Church.

David has been married to his wife, Balinda, for 30 years.  Balinda is a school Director and former teacher, and also a Dale Carnegie program graduate. They have a married daughter Rachael, who is also a teacher and Chico State Grad, and a son James, who is a Business/Mgmt. major at Chico State.  

David is an avid reader of communication and self-improvement books. They enjoy spending time together, working out/fitness, and are big movie and Disneyland and Halloween fans.
